Photography FAQs

  • We currently offer 3 packages. Everyday, Extended, and Show Packages. The Extended package is suitable for those selling their quilts, showcasing their skills, and publishing patterns. The Show packages allows us to help you meet the requirements of the show in which you hope to gain entry. Our Everyday package is just that, a couple of casual shots you can use for social media, to share with your friends, or to remember a great quilt you gifted to a loved one.

Please see their respective pages for more details, current costs, and examples!

  • Once all of your services are complete you will receive an invoice via email. If we are shipping your quilt back to you a label will be created and we will drop off with the carrier within 1-3 business days of your invoice being paid. If you are local, pickup instructions will be included in your emailed invoice. Within two weeks of your invoice being paid, a link to your photos will be emailed to you. We often invoice before all of the editing and organizing is complete which allows us to get your quilt back to you more quickly. Instructions for accessing and downloading your photos will be sent your way at that time.

  • If you are using Trace Creek Quilting as a longarming service, your photos will be taken within their typical turnaround time of 4 weeks. If you do not need longarming services and are simply wanting photos, we will have an invoice for you within 2 weeks of your quilt arrive in our studio, and the photos will be available to you within two weeks of your invoice being paid.

  • All photos for the Everyday and Extended packages will be accessible in two different sizes of .jpegs. The first will be a high resolution suitable for print, and publications. The second will be a lower resolution suitable for social media, scheduling platforms and websites.

Show Package photos will be made available in the resolution required by the show application process.

  • We are happy to consider special request such as quicker turnaround times or particular quilt details to capture for the Extended package. If you have a favorite fabric you would like to highlight, or your points matched perfectly in one spot we can easily capture that for you! However, we cannot make guarantees for locations or particular props as they might not be available to us within our timeframe.

  • If your quilt is with us for longarming, this service will simply be added onto your typical invoice. If not, you will get an invoice via email once your photos are ready. Your photos will be made available to you within two weeks of your invoice being paid.

  • Within two weeks of your invoice being paid, you will receive a link to a Google Drive folder in which your photos will live for up to 3 months after your photos are made. After 3 months we may need to archive the photos to open up space in the drive.

  • Just like most photography packages, the photos taken belong to the company that made them. Trace Creek Quilting will retain that ownership and the right to use the photos to help promote our work. However, you have paid to have them made and to have access to use them as necessary to promote yourself, your skills, and your products.

Outside entities, businesses, or individuals who wish to use them must receive written consent from Trace Creek Quilting to publish or use the photos.

It is our intent to be fairly laid back about this as long as folks are being respectful and asking.

  • 1) We are located in St. Louis, MO which has all 4 seasons, sometimes all in the same day. We do our best to make great photos despite the time of year, but we should always embrace any limitations the weather and time of year impose upon us.

    2) Occasionally, quilts in the wild get a bit dirty. We do everything (and I mean everything) to try to prevent this. But sometimes that perfect fold includes a railing with a tad bit more dust on it than we accounted for.

    3) We typically go out for photos once a week. If the day we are shooting is crummy, we may have to wait until the following week to get the perfect photo of your quilt. We will always communicate with you if this causes unexpected delays.

  • Flat lays are perfectly flat images of a quilt shot in a studio with either no background or a solid white background. These photos are typically used for the cover of quilt patterns, advertisements, and other sophisticated uses. If this is something you would like or need we are happy to make it for you for an additional $20. This additional fee covers the extra editing required to remove the background.
